Construction can be noisy, messy, and may affect area traffic and parking. Construction can also be uplifting, interesting, and can spark curiosity and interest. 

During this project, we will work to minimize the impact on our neighborhood as much as possible. This page will be updated with information that can keep everyone aware of the progress and type of work being done. 

The project is expected to be finished by December 31, 2024. 

Project Timeline

• October 21, 2023:
  • The sale of the property for the housing project from Union Congregational UCC to Project for Pride in Living was closed on October 18, 2023. Abatement of hazardous materials from the site is in process in preparation for the demolition of the education wing of the church. 
• October 26, 2023:
  • Abatement in now complete. Demolition will start the week of October 29th.
• November 2, 2023:
  • Demolition has started.
  • 37th Street is closed between Alabama and Brunswick.
  • Alabama Ave. S. will be closed from 36th Street to Oxford from November 7th through November 10th.
• November 14,2023:
  • The education wing has been demolished. The closure of Alabama was not necessary.
